Modern Extension to Grade 2 Listed Sussex Farmhouse
The main objective was to thoughtfully and sympathetically refurbish the existing Grade 2 listed 16th Century Heritage Asset and to build a 21st Century extension to help meet requirements of family living. Also, to increase the appreciation of the garden and facilitate the relaxed flow between garden and living accommodation.
The Modern extension (formerly the footprint of a 1960’s garage block) design, build and material selection was collaboratively agreed to meet the demanding listed building consent guidelines.
The complex roof to the extension, clad in Cumbrian slate, now compliments the Horsham stone roof of the house. Perhaps the external “Jewel in the Crown” at Coneyhurst.
Our client’s home is evolving to support an eco and biodiversity profile. A GSHP was installed during the build programme. The next initiative is to supplement it with solar panels. Outside, work is ongoing to ensure the lake can be restocked with native fish, introducing beehives etc. all small but important steps. It was important to meet the main objective in a sustainable way that does not harm the listed building or its setting.
