“The judges found the restoration of this c.19th former farm cottages, clustered with a small group of vernacular farm buildings set in a sensitive Downland Landscape extremely impressive. They particularly admired the care and thought which had gone into the design and the attention to detail in execution of the works to provide light spacious and contemporary accommodation in a heritage environment. The removal of inappropriate later additions to the house, and replacement by a new extension to the west worked well. The addition of a new pool house using traditional and appropriate materials tying together what had been an eclectic cluster of buildings to create an informal ‘courtyard’ with swimming pool added considerably to the whole composition.”
